Dolomitic Lime (C-I-L)

Lime, or calcium carbonate (CaCO3), is a naturally occurring mineral.

Dolomitic lime helps to gently increase soil pH when needed. Soil pH tends to naturally decrease slightly with every growing cycle. Adding lime to your soil can help correct the pH and keep it close to neutral. This reduces the need for fertilizers and assist with the breakdown of organic matter and root development. When the soil pH is less than 7, acidity exists as an accumulation of hydrogen (H). When lime is applied to soil, the carbonate molecule (from lime) and hydrogen combine. The end products from this reaction are H2O (water) & CO2 (carbon dioxide).  Calcium is now attached to the exchange site.  Because the carbonate liberates the hydrogen, the soil pH rises (becomes less acidic).
