pH Adjusters

pH represents the level of acidity present in your soil. pH conditions can have a major influence on your ability to successfully grow plants, as it impacts nutrient availability and microbial activity.

Most plants like a pH that is close to neutral or slightly acidic (6-7). Some however prefer a bit more acidic conditions; for instance potato, rhododendrons, some hydrangeas, and blueberries. And some prefer a pH that is a bit higher, for instance corn, tomato and turnip. A chart describing pH requirements for food plants is available here, and for houseplants is available here.

Yukon soil can be naturally slightly basic to slightly acidic depending by region; for instance native soils around Whitehorse often are slightly basic.

We offer several products you can use to adjust pH levels. Aluminum sulphate decreases the pH and provides optimal conditions for acidity-loving plants, while dolomitic lime can gently increase the soil pH.
