Natural Fertilizers

Plants need nutrients to grow, thrive, and to see them through tougher conditions. Fertilizers are a prime source of nutrients. Heavy feeders have particularly high nutrient needs, and will appreciate a supplemental fertilization. Heavy feeders include brassicas (e.g. broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, kale, collards) as well as peppers, eggplants, celery, leeks, squash, zucchini, melons, and cucumbers; tomatoes and cannabis are heavy feeders with particularly high needs. More details here.

Major nutrients content of fertilizers typically is expressed by a 3 number rating system. The first number is nitrogen (N), the second number is phosphorus (P), and the third is potassium (K). These numbers represent the percentage of each nutrient found in the product.

Rule of thumb:

  • Vegetative growth (leaves and stems) requires N
  • Roots development requires P
  • Flowering and Fructification requires P and K

Fertilizers come in many forms, each with their specific advantage and nutrient ratio, and can be derived from many sources.

We carry a variety of meals, and high quality liquid plant foods, including fish emulsion, and fertilizers for cannabis and flowers.
